Fairbanks Southward to Denali Highway

We left Fairbanks and travelled south along the Richardson Highway to the Denali Highway. This route took us through Delta Junction, the "official" end of the Alaskan Highway, and then down to Paxson where we joined the dirt and gravel road that crosses interior Alaska. The scenery, as always was spectacular along this route. We stopped at a cool wood carving shop with some pretty neat 'burl' wood. The only wildlife along this route were moose.
We stopped at Rika's Roadhouse--a former roadhouse catering to Alaskan travellers in the early 1900s. It had several 'antiques' and displays of the equipment, furnishings, clothing, etc. from that era...and it was FREE!
We had views of the Alaskan pipeline as well as spectacular mountains. The winds blow fiercely in Delta Junction, stirring up the gravel in the river beds to create a 'dust haze' in front of the mountains.
