We spent 4 days at the campground c. 30 miles inside Denali National Park called Teklanika.
The advantage of being in this campground is the "Tek bus pass" which allows you to take any bus at any time on a space-available basis. This is the only way into the park for visitors as driving is only allowed to the Savage River--all other travel must be by bus. For a single fee, Tek campers can ride the buses during the entire stay--there are no facilities (i.e., no electric, water or sewer hookups, so you must be self-contained) and a minimum 3 day stay is required. We took the bus each day to view wildlife and get off and hike in the back country in various areas. There are few trails in the park and "wild" hiking is the name of the game. You just pick a spot that you like and go hiking.
We enjoyed several hikes and luckily had no bear encounters while on foot--only fresh bear scat!
We saw tons of wildlife--caribou, Dall sheep, grizzlies, fox, lynx, and wolf. It was fantastic!
