As we travelled through B.C., we came to an area near the "Hazeltons" with several small 'first nations' villages--among them Gitanyow--where there were tons of carved totem poles standing amongst the homes in the village. Silent testaments to the ancient traditions, they stood without ceremony and--without tourists.
We camped overnight at a campground that was part of the K'san museum. This was one of the most amazing museums we visited and it gave an intimate view of traditional native life.
