Last night was spent in a Walmart parking lot with several other "land-cruisers" in Council Bluffs, IA which is across the river from Omaha, NE. The U-tube videos of Walmart shoppers were probably made here.
We spent 2 nights in the "Land Between the Lakes" Nat'l Recreation Area which was a great surprise to us as we didn't realize they had an elk and bison refuge there. We enjoyed seeing them along with tons of deer and other, smaller animals like armadillos. We swam in our own private cove near the campsite and I enjoyed a nice bike ride there, but it was VERY hilly and hot in the record-breaking heat, so it pretty much kicked my butt and it was only 30 miles! We also were able to sight in our shot gun that we brought for bear protection in the remote wilderness areas.
This morning finds us taking advantage of the free Wifi at McDonald's before we head out to South Dakota where we'll spend a few days exploring the Badlands and then continue on to the Black Hills.
Hi guys! did such a trip many years ago and was told by a friend (police officer) that 'no' gun or license was acceptable all across America. Certainly not Internationally. So maybe before it gets you in a jam heading north, buy Bear Spray-Legal over border.
